#Notes2Self - Today, Rediscover Yourself. Be Selfish to Become Selfless. Who Are You, Really? #SundaySearching
I came to know of Abe Odedina @abeodedina through Ed Cross @edcrossfineart
Ed, wrote me #BeautifulThankYou for unsolicitedly promoting their artist Dr. Kimathi Donkor
Ed, unknown to him, guided me, reinforced I am not a mistake or accident. He told me that I had written about favorite childhood artist, Charles Blackman.
Ed, Autralian born, has also lived in Kenya for many years and now living in the UK, promotes the works of artists from all over the world.
On discovering, I am an architect, he mentioned #Architect2Artist Abe Odedina of whom the gallery says... ”Abe’s paintings speak through a highly legible allegorical vernacular. His work is bold and mythical whilst always accessible - their readability is paramount.
Odedina describes himself as #folkartist and his practice is inspired by the rich figurative and oral traditions of #AfricanArt infused with a trace of magic realism.
His practice seeks to revive and deconstruct quintessential classical themes spanning from ancient Greek to Yoruba mythologies to create a charged dialogue between epochs, cultures, and peoples.
Abe Odedina (b. 1960, Ibadan, Nigeria, lives in London and Salvador Bahia) had a successful architecture career before starting to paint on a trip to Brazil in 2007.
