Fun Fact n°445: Willem de Kooning was a Dutch-American artist born in 1904 in Rotterdam, Netherlands. He dropped out of school at age 12 to start an apprenticeship in a a design and decoration firm. At the same time, he attended evening classes at the Rotterdam Academy of Fine Arts and Techniques. His style is defined as abstract expressionism, a post–World War II art movement that started in New York in the 1940s.
