I was and am asked if I attended any art school. Answer is simple no. In middle school my art teacher said I wasn’t ready for art school. I do remember my disappointment in her disapproving judgement. Now and then I wish I could find her so I could show her my work, I wish all the people who thought I’m that weird person that day dreamed in isolation, staring out the window drawing, could see my paintings. Not to brag and show off my skills but to tell her/them thank you. Thank you for not believing in me, thank you for criticizing my artworks, thank you for making fun of me and my work. Because of all those disapproving words/criticism I work harder, I pray harder, I strive harder. If I was to do it all over again, I don’t know if I would actually choose to attend any art school. I was asked to give advice in this area. My answer to all who want to pursue art would be yes. I encourage you to take advantage of the privileges you have. Accept the help of a teacher, take all the help and tips you’re given, but do remember to stay strong as nail if they want to change your uniqueness and make their body of work yours. Unique techniques and skills only form in your extra time spent in solitude not giving up. Putting in all the extra hard work and practice a lot 👩🏻🎨
