Today I should be running with all the other runners at the rock n roll half marathon. But instead I am injured and it hurts!
But it’s not the end of the world. Whilst I haven’t been able to run for 5wks it’s frustrating but boy am I a stronger person for it.
I never focused all that much on strength work which is probably why I have had so many issues with my shins since starting to run. But now I realise the importance of it.
This past few weeks I have been working hard on my physio exercises. I have been pushing myself but still being respectful and patient.
Patience is absolutely not my strong point but I try.
The question is not how long until I can run...its how long does my body need? And the answer is....as long as it bloody well likes.
So for now, running is off the table. I am focusing on building myself back up and boy will I be stronger, faster, wiser and much more focused.
Injury will not get me down. I will be happy, push on and take this as an opportunity to make things better for the future.
So if you’re out injured then don’t worry, don’t get upset, don’t get frustrated. Take a deep breathe and see this as an opportunity for improvement.
A key example is @lindzp33
She was out injured for quite some time but quietly pushed forward and swapped it up with cycling. Her London marathon journey was long but she completed it. Not only that, yesterday she completed her first ever triathlon. Pushing herself outside of her comfort zone.
Lindz journey was long but boy did she come out smiling.
Good luck to anyone racing this weekend. I wish you all the best.
