One of the questions I get asked most frequently is: “What “program” do you follow?” Now don’t get me wrong I’m all about a fitness routine, progressive training, and structure but only to an extent. Once you no longer know how to exercise independently without someone telling you what to do every waking second or every moment in the gym, you’ve got a problem. I used to be that person who was, quote on quote, married to their program, one day off of it or doing someone else’s workout and I felt like I was going insane and losing all my progress...which couldn’t be farther from the truth. To be honest it probably would’ve done me good to use those days to relax, not have to think about a workout or getting a good score and enjoying the company of others but I couldn’t see that then. So the question makes me giggle now. I often respond with a puzzled look and a shrug or I just say “whatever I feel like doing today.” I love having the freedom of writing my own workouts, picking things I enjoy while also incorporating challenges for myself along the way. I can make the workout focused on whatever aspect of fitness I want- strength, cardio, CrossFit, intervals, bodybuilding style, sometimes I take various fitness classes, you name it. I can make them however long or short I want. Only have thirty minutes, get a workout in. Feel like running a marathon? Yea I’m down. Don’t want to workout? Send me your best bingeworthy Netflix recommendations. Fitness should never be a chore or a cage, I’ve learned. Fitness should set you free and make you feel boundless in a world of infinite possibilities. So happy to have resparked a passion for fitness in myself that I lost many years ago, my mind runs wild with creativity everyday and then my body puts it into reality.
