I am a huge fan of this account and this concept and the results achieved through love
3 million homeless pets die every year inside America’s shelters.
While this is happening, 3 million men, women and kids are incarcerated in America every year.
It is my deepest confidence that these statistics can work to cancel one another out. Incarcerated inmate/trainers can save countless lives, while giving themselves a legitimate path to employment when they are released.
The pet industry is a 90 billion follow juggernaut, with ample opportunity for our student inmates. In fact, the industry is scrambling to fill a training gap, created by a lack of qualified, experienced trainers. By the time many of our students are released, they will have had thousands of hours one on one experience and hundreds of hours shadowing and directly learning from industry professionals.
Additionally, the majority of our students released from prison have joined the pet services and rescue community as a career!
At any given time, we have up to 40 dogs living inside of State Prisons and juvenile halls in California. 40 lives which may otherwise have been lost needlessly. In turn, these men and women are gaining much needed confidence and skills to ensure they don’t end up a recidivism statistic. Recidivism is at 80% because former inmates don’t have a path to employment. This program is that path!
