With 300 musk oxen left in dovre on an area of 1693 square kilometers it can get hard to find those powerful but fluffy guys. They can run up to 60km/h what should be a warning to you when you get to see them. After spending some hours with the oxen i had the feeling that they were totally comfortable and accepted me and the distance i kept from them. In two days where i hiked 60km i was able to see 35 musk oxen in different herds which was just amazing. They weren’t really active because of the warm climate which was above 30 degrees (that isn’t normal for Norway especially around this area). Thanks to a kind Ranger who gave me some really nice advices how to find them and also told me that Scientists have found out that more and more extreme weather events, such as rain-on-snow, extremely dry winter conditions and hot and dry summers result in smaller head sizes for young musk oxen. However, smaller animals have a low survival rate. One more reason for us to change immediately. Choose nature.
