If you follow #Cornwall tags your feed has probably been filled with #poppies for days, so sorry but here's another! .
I've walked past these fields countless times over the last few years but I've never actually been there when the flowers have been in bloom. I very nearly didn't go at all because
• I didn't really have enough time
• Loads of people have already photographed them, does the world need another?!
• it was the 'wrong' time of day and therefore 'bad' light
So anyway, ignoring these perfectly good reasons, I made a mad dash on the school run with 20mins to see what I could come up with! Did I come away with any original works of art, no absolutely not 😂
I'm so glad I went though! It all hangs on what you want to get out of your photography. For me, a big part of it is the excuse to go places, and really try and experience them. Whilst it's not recommended, being pushed for time and fighting challenging light makes one look harder, or rather more thoroughly, more mindfully. Much as you can get your fill with images on here nothing replaces the riot of colour, the buzzing of insects, the smell of warm earth or the smiles of wonder as people walk through the gate for the first time 😃
P.S. thank you to @nationaltrust
for taking the initiative with this conservation project. I'm planning a blog post on the ecological issues around photography honeypot locations and where social media can help and hinder. Love to know your thoughts 🤔
