‘LBTS Nurse 🦈 Rescue’ 5-7-19
My buddy Randel and I were in the right place at the right time when on our cleanup dive. We came upon a 5ft #nurseshark who tried to swim away as we approached, but I noticed she was restrained by monofilament and attached to the reef ledge by several hooks, not to mention the one that must’ve been quite uncomfortable for her in her mouth.
I dropped my camera, grabbed my knife, found the source of the line, reached under the ledge and began unwrapping and cutting as much line as I could. We worked as a team to free the last lines and she finally swam away! 🙌 although nurse sharks are one of the few sharks species who can breathe without needing to constantly keep swimming, she surely would have starved had we not come upon her when we did. I also did not seek or expect the amount of media coverage this has received, but I am humbled. Thank you. Although this was the second time I performed this action at this exact spot in less than 2 months! Links to articles below are like a game of telephone, it’s quite funny to go chronologically 😂❤️🦈🦈🦈❤️🤷♂️🧜♂️
