I think it’s really interesting being #AsianAmerican . You grow up with all these high expectations from your parents to excel. Well, it depends on what order you were born in and the type of Asian parent you have. 😂 I was the oldest and pressured as a child to make straight A’s. I was not allowed to watch tv on weekdays, and I was in symphony orchestra and varsity tennis in high school. Don’t think about dating until you get into college! 🤷🏻♀️
My dad loves to sing. He would always say that he could have been famous 🤩, but he didn’t like the attention. There were always people coming over for karaoke, and that is how I discovered my love for singing. I loved music. In college, my aspirations were to go to med school but major in music, and actually viola performance and not voice. That, as you can imagine, didn’t go well with my dad, and there was shame and anger and resentment. I spent the rest of my college career unfocused, and I never applied for med school, but ended up with a bachelor of science in Biochemistry and a doctorate in Pharmacy. In the middle of my last year of pharmacy school, instead of applying for residency, I chose to go straight into the workforce and finally focus on my artistic passion: music 🎶
