. Get the face in the light... Use the play of light and shadow to make creative images...and in wildlife / bird photography it is important to get the light on the face of the subject and also more importantly to get the light on the eye. These kind of images have a painting like effect and will have far better impact compared to uniform flat lighting. Feel free to provide me pointer to your image, or upload an image with the hashtag #SSPPlayofLight and I will have a look :) Canon 1D Mark III + Canon EF 800mm f5.6 L IS + 1/4x converter, ISO 320, f8 @ 1/125, Evaluative metering -2 stops, used Gitzo tripod + wimberly head to get good stability. -- SSP - for the love of learning #wildlife #nature #wildlifephotography #animals #photography #naturephotography #animal #wild #outdoors #photooftheday #picoftheday #forest #travelphotography #safari #naturelovers #wilderness #photographer #photographytips #phototours #PhotoTour #SSP #SudhirShivaramPhotography #SSPPhotoTips #SudhirShivaram Do sign up for our video tutorials and join 1000's of others who have given very positive review and feedback about the tutorials and learning every day. our online photography tutorials: https://www.sudhirshivaramphotography.com/photography-courses/video-tutorials/

. Sambar Deer Kanha Tiger Reserve Low Key Image - shot using the spot light effect...this is not manipulated in photoshop. The camera cannot handle the dynamic range of the scene where there is shadows and strong light. You need to expose the image to the light and the shadow area automatically gets darker. This is the concept of low key image. -- SSP - for the love of learning

Take advantage of your camera's burst mode... Where there is action happening, you need to take advantage of your camera burst mode and shoot continuously to get that one shot. In this case the Elephant calf was interacting with it's mother and I started shooting continuously to get a good eye contact and a close-up when it was besides it's mother's trunk. Of course, the challenge is to select that one shot from so many. That's where you need to study the image for composition, eye contact, mood, sharpness etc and select that one shot! #wildlife #nature #wildlifephotography #animals #photography #naturephotography #animal #wild #outdoors #photooftheday #picoftheday #forest #travelphotography #safari #naturelovers #wilderness #photographer #photographytips #phototours #PhotoTour #SSP #SudhirShivaramPhotography #SSPPhotoTips #SudhirShivaram -- SSP - for the love of learning Interested in making good images from what ever equipment you have? Simple Background and Negative Space... You can enhance your image by making use of simple complementary background and with the concept of negative space, where you place the subject to a corner of the frame and leave a lot of space around it. This kind of composition is helpful depending on where you want to use the image. In my case I can use that negative space to put text about my upcoming tours or workshops or to convey any message. In the field your mind has to keep thinking about where and how can you use a particular composition or for that matter what kind of composition you need to go with given a scenario. #wildlife #nature #wildlifephotography #animals #photography #naturephotography #animal #wild #outdoors #photooftheday #picoftheday #forest #travelphotography #safari #naturelovers #wilderness #photographer #photographytips #phototours #PhotoTour #SSP #SudhirShivaramPhotography #SSPPhotoTips #SudhirShivaram -- SSP - for the love of learning If your deepest desire is to start taking amazing photographs with whatever equipment you have, Welcome to Sudhir Shivaram Photography. The Art of Black & White Velavadar Blackbuck National Park Composition is the key to making good images...but then, to get a particular angle and composition, never compromise the rules and guidelines of the safari or for that matter your own safety. There are situations where you simply have to let go of the image and just enjoy it's sheer beauty from your naked eyes. Photography is all about light. ( Check my story for original RAW file screen shot) Understand how your camera meters works and it's easy to make these images. Be it Spot Meter or evaluative/matrix, it's easy to get the correct exposure for these images. In case of spot meter, keep the spot on the Parakeet and use exposure compensation as zero or probably -1/3 to -2/3..or use evaluative metering and use -2. What did I do ? Here you go: I used spot meter and manual exposure...f8 @ 1/1000 and ISO 320. Any questions? Shoot and can answer.. Which one would you prefer and why? Here's the same image processed for 2 different white balance as mentioned on the image. Each conveys a different mood in the image. Which one would you prefer and why? There is no right or wrong answer as it's an individual choice. Let me know. -- SSP - for the love of learning

Go for the vertical composition... You need to decide fast in the field..especially with Tigers getting too close and you are using a long tele lens. Best way to compose if to go vertical. Of course, you can always hoot creative off centre close-up in horizontal composition as well. And that's the best part of photography...no rules in photography..or learn to break the rules and make your own signature images! This is the colour version of the black and white I had posted. Shot using SONY Alpha A9 amd SONY 400f2.8 lens. #wildlife #nature #wildlifephotography #animals #photography #naturephotography #animal #wild #outdoors #photooftheday #picoftheday #forest #travelphotography #safari #naturelovers #wilderness #photographer #photographytips #phototours #PhotoTour #SSP #SudhirShivaramPhotography #SSPPhotoTips #SudhirShivaram -- SSP - for the love of learning

Sarus Crane Bharatpur This has been my all time favourite image of the Sarus Crane. I spent more than 5+ hours with a pair of Sarus Crane and finally got this image. They were initially very far and I stay put in the direction they were walking and after an hours time they were pretty close to me. I have tried many times to beat this image and have not been able to. Of course I have other creative scape images, but not a close-up portrait which can beat this image. The Roll over... Tadoba Tiger Reserve When a Tiger is sleeping, have patience and wait for it...common things it will do are yawning, licking itself and this amazing roll over :) Understand animal behaviour and you can make amazing images :) Canon 1DX + Canon EF 800mm f5.6 L IS, ISO 1000, f5.6 @ 1/1000, Evaluative Metering -2/3 Stop #wildlife #nature #wildlifephotography #animals #photography #naturephotography #animal #wild #outdoors #photooftheday #picoftheday #forest #travelphotography #safari #naturelovers #wilderness #photographer #photographytips #phototours #PhotoTour #SSP #SudhirShivaramPhotography #SSPPhotoTips #SudhirShivaram -- SSP - for the love of learning If your deepest desire is to start taking amazing photographs with whatever equipment you have, Welcome to Sudhir Shivaram Photography. Serval Cat, Masai Mara The concept of panning... You shoot with a slow shutter speed of around 1/10 to 1/30 seconds depending on how much panning effect you want to get in shutter priority mode. You need to move the camera along with the subject and keep the focusing point on the eye of the subject. #wildlife #nature #wildlifephotography #animals #photography #naturephotography #animal #wild #outdoors #photooftheday #picoftheday #forest #travelphotography #safari #naturelovers #wilderness #photographer #photographytips #phototours #PhotoTour #SSP #SudhirShivaramPhotography #SSPPhotoTips #SudhirShivaram Canon 1DX Mark II + Canon EF 400mm f2.8 L IS2, ISO 1000, f3.2 @ 1/15, Evaluative Metering -2/3 Stop, Shutter Priority, WB at 5000K and adjusted the tint in post processing to remove colour cast. -- SSP - for the love of learning.
